Sticky Cider Onion Hot Dogs

Sticky Cider Onion Hot Dogs

Let's turn our attention to the 5th Of November and Bonfire Night! So I have decided to share with you a couple recipes which I enjoy making for this time of year. They are super quick, easy and oh so tasty you will be wanting to make them all year round.

Who remembers going to a firework display in there local towns and having a hot dog or burger from the catering van? I was lucky enough to have the bonfire night firework display in the field outside my bedroom window. So my sister and I would run down, get a hot dog and enjoy it from the warm confines of why room. Sadly as time went on this tradition faded as the firework show got cancelled. But that didn't stop us enjoying our bonfire night evenings. To this day, I continue to make hot dogs but with a little boozy twist....

To make my Sticky Cider Hot Dogs you will need...

Ingredients

  • 30g Butter
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 Onions (finely sliced)
  • 100ml Cider
  • 1 tbsp Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Mustard (I used wholegrain)
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 4 Sausages
  • 4 Hot Dog Buns (I used brioche)

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a pan with the olive oil.
  2. Add the onions and a pinch of salt and fry for 25-30 mins or until caramelised and slightly sticky.
  3. Add the cider and simmer until reduced.
  4. Stir in the sugar and vinegar until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the mustard with the mayonnaise and leave to one side while we focus on the sausages.
  1. Cook the sausages for a few minutes on each side until brown.
  2. Split the hot dog buns and fill each with a sausage. Top with the onions and the mustard-mayo.

And there you have it my amazingly quick and easy Sticky Cider Onion Hot Dogs. Perfect to enjoy during bonfire night or as a quick rustle up food for a firework display, these hot dogs will not disappoint. Enjoy on it's own or like me, I had a few scalloped fried potatoes on the side.

If you make this dish, why not send me a picture on Instagram using the #acountrygirlskitchen so I can go over and show it some love.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.
