Why You’ll Love These Tacos
They’re speedy, light, and absolutely bursting with flavour. The marinade alone is something you’ll come back to again and again — zingy lime, smoky spices, and juicy prawns that soak it all up beautifully.
The slaw brings creaminess and crunch, the avocado cools things down just right, and the whole thing is a perfect handheld bundle of goodness. They’re fun to build, easy to customise, and ideal for relaxed, sunny-day eating — whether that’s outdoors or just under the fairy lights in your kitchen.
Whether you’re entertaining, whipping up a midweek treat, or just need to bring a bit of zing to your plate, these tacos are the answer. They’re light enough for summer nights, but satisfying enough to cosy up with too — and because we’re using frozen cooked prawns, they’re low-fuss and high-reward.
The prawns are bathed in a spiced lime marinade that’s smoky, citrusy and a little fiery. They’re quickly pan-fried for a golden edge, then tucked into toasted tortillas with a creamy, crunchy slaw and finished with an extra squeeze of lime. They’re the sort of food that invites you to build and bite with your hands — messy in the best way.

How to Make Prawn Tacos Step-by-Step

1. Make the marinade
In a bowl, mix together the zest and juice of your lime, olive oil, grated garlic, smoked paprika, chilli flakes and a pinch of salt. Add the prawns and toss well to coat. Set aside to marinate while you prep everything else — 10 minutes is enough.

Little tip: If you’re using raw prawns instead of cooked, no worries — just make sure they’re peeled and deveined, and give them a quick fry for 2–3 mins each side until pink and opaque.
2. Whip up the slaw
In a mixing bowl, combine your shredded red cabbage, grated carrot and spring onions. Stir through the mayo and vinegar or lime juice, then season to taste. You want it creamy, tangy, and with a good bit of crunch — perfect for cutting through the spicy prawns.

3. Toast your tortillas
Heat a dry frying pan over medium heat and warm your tortillas one at a time for about 30 seconds per side, just until soft and a little golden. Stack them in a clean tea towel to keep warm and flexible.

5. Build your tacos
Now the fun bit. Take a warm tortilla, add a spoonful of creamy slaw, a few spicy prawns, a slice or two of avocado, and a scatter of coriander if you like. Finish with a squeeze of lime and a little hot sauce if you’re feeling bold.

Recipe Variations & Substitutions
- Add crunch: Try toasting some pumpkin seeds or crushed tortilla chips for extra texture on top.
- Vegan version? Swap prawns for crispy tofu or spiced chickpeas, and use a plant-based mayo for the slaw.
- Make it creamy: Mash your avocado with a pinch of salt and squeeze of lime to create a quick guacamole instead of slices.
- Crank the heat: Add a pinch of cayenne to your marinade or use a chipotle hot sauce.
- Go tropical: Add a little chopped mango or pineapple for a sweet hit to balance the spice.

Storage & Reheating Tips
These are best assembled and eaten fresh, but leftovers keep well if stored separately:
- Keep any leftover prawns in the fridge for up to 2 days — reheat gently in a pan or microwave.
- Slaw can be made a few hours ahead and kept chilled.
- Tortillas can be reheated quickly in a pan or wrapped in foil in the oven.

What to Serve With Prawn Tacos
If you’re making a bit of an occasion of it (which we always recommend), try serving with:
- Crispy tortilla chips and a dip — guac, tomato salsa or sour cream
- Sweetcorn salad or charred corn on the cob with chilli butter
- Icy cold drinks — lime soda, margaritas, or something fruity and fizzy

There’s something just so joyful about tacos, isn’t there? They’re a little bit messy, a lot of fun, and full of flavour in every bite. Whether it’s a warm-weather dinner with the windows wide open or a winter evening that needs a bit of sunshine, these Spicy Lime & Prawn Tacos will bring the party.
So grab the limes, warm the tortillas, and let your kitchen fill with the sounds (and smells) of something truly tasty in the making.
Until next time — stay spicy, squeeze your citrus, and keep cooking with heart.
